Syrian billionaire buys luxury Byron Bay resort

Gerry Harvey of ‘Harvey Norman’ fame has sold his $45 million Byron Bay resort, to Dubai-based Syrian billionaire Ghassan Aboud. 

Mr Aboud started his business career dealing in vehicles and spare parts in Sharjah 1994 and has since built an  international conglomerate engaged in several key business sectors including automotive, logistics, pastoral, media, hospitality, real estate, retail, and catering. 

His company The Ghassan Aboud Group has offices in Australia, China,Belgium, Jordan and Turkey with Forbes magazine listing it as 27th in the UAE’s top 50 companies. 

Mr Aboud is said to have fallen in love with Australia on a holiday to North Queensland in 2016 and has built up a sizable property portfolio on Australia east coast including the Little Albion in Sydney, the Hotel Riley, Bailey Hotel both in Cairns and now Byron at Byron resort.

Opened in 1995 the 92-suite owner-operated resort and spa is situated on 45 acres of subtropical rainforest, it features a conference centre, retail shop, infinity pool,day spa, tennis courts and one hatted restaurant rating.
