DRIP World is the latest international festival to be announced in Australia with huge promises and an even greater lineup. Could this be the breakthrough of cursed hip-hop festivals Australia is looking for? We’re certainly hoping so.
If you’ve been on social media lately, chances are you’ve seen a new Urban festival called Drip World circulating. It’s being claimed as “Australia’s biggest contemporary urban festival”, with four incredible shows lined up around the country in multi-thousand capacity venues in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Undeniably Australia has had a rocky relationship with hip-hop music festivals in the past. For example, in 2010 a festival called Supafest was a promising new force to the festival market with things looking bright for urban music lovers. Unfortunately in 2013 it became a thing of the past with its snap cancellations and unconfirmed acts. Drip World is another festival with major aspirations and international artists, could this be an event of the future or one that will die out overtime?
US Rapper French Montana has been one of the first international artists to be announced, along with the likes of Akon, Migos, Lil Skies, Lil Xan, Lil Baby, Rich The Kid and many more. If that doesn’t get you riled up, it has also been made known that one local artist from each city are being given the chance to perform at the event and for one lucky artist, there is opportunity to feature on the Drip World festival theme song. With 90’000 tickets being sold across multiple locations in Australia, a dream that even some of the long living festivals haven’t been able to achieve, Drip World certainly has a difficult task ahead.
How likely is this to go ahead with Australia’s cursed history of Hip-Hop festivals, are we putting it behind us or will this be another festival that gets pulled? I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.
