Community event on January 26 to raise money for victims of devastating Australian bushfires.
Australia Day at Dubai’s Zero Gravity will be dedicated to raising funds for those impacted by the devastating bushfires.
At least 28 people have been killed so far by the disaster, while an estimated 1.25 billion animals have perished, 2,000 homes have been destroyed and 18 million acres of land has been decimated by the fires.
The fundraiser at Zero Gravity will be held on Sunday, January 26 from 2pm, in association with Emirates Red Crescent, with all funds transferred to the Red Cross in Australia as part of the UAE’s #mateshelpmates initiative.
Peter Skuditis, general manager at Zero Gravity, said: “Coming from Melbourne, I grew up in the Dandenong Ranges National Park where I experienced first-hand the devastation that bushfires can cause so this is a situation that is very personal to me.
“My family and I were evacuated in 1997 when the entire area was hit by bushfires and many of my good friends lost their homes, with only scorched ground remaining where once there was lush forest.
“I am amazed at the incredible outreach of support that the local Dubai community has already offered this event, and not just the Australians. We are looking forward to a wonderful community event and raising much-needed funds towards the bushfire relief effort.”
Aussie ‘barbie’
The event will include an Aussie ‘barbie’ and refreshments. There will also be regular raffle draws throughout the day to win awesome prizes donated by the local community, as well as an auction, with all proceeds from the day going towards the relief effort.
There will also be music from DJs who have given their time for free, fairground games and face painting and pool and beach access.
Donations can be made through Emirates Red Crescent – emiratesrc.ae (mateshelpmates) or yallagive.com
