Temporary Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) items are being introduced to allow people to access essential health services in their home via telehealth while they undergo self-isolation or quarantine, and reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for vulnerable people in the community. This is a temporary six-month measure covering bulk billed services and may be extended if recommended by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and approved by the Government. These services will be available to a range of people including people self-isolating, people aged over 70 and parents with new babies or people who are pregnant. This service will cost provisionally $100 million over 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.
