The Human Rights Foundation recently advised Nicki Minaj to consider canceling her performance in the Jeddah World festival.
Minaj subsequently announced the cancellation of her performance on the 18 July at the Jeddah World Fest in a statement to NBC News. She reached out to her fans in Saudi Arabia, saying that she would have loved to partake in the Jeddah World fest. However, due to some findings of human rights concern, Minaj expressed the necessity for supporting the LGBTQ community, women’s rights and the freedom of expression, as her reason for cancelling her performance.
The Human Rights Foundation cited Saudi Arabia’s killing and incarceration of homosexuals and the murder of journalists and the domination of women as of major concern, and thus warranting a recommendation from them regarding her serious reconsideration of her participation in the Festival.
