On the morning of August 20th, a tragic accident occurred in the intersection of Bridge Road and Church Street in Richmond, which resulted in the demise of well-loved and well-respected Journalist Sam Landsberger at the age of 35.
Tributes are being made across the sports world as news of this untimely death is announced.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon extended condolences on behalf of the League to Landsbergers family, colleagues and also to the Western Bulldogs. Landsberger was a close friend and fan of the Bulldogs team, where his father was a club doctor for more than 20 years. The team has expressed their shock and sadness at this devastating loss of their beloved friend.
Landsberger worked for 14 years as a journalist for News Corp Australia, Herald Sun and television appearances on Fox Footy recently. In his career, he was awarded the Australian Football Media Associations Clinton Grybas Rising Star Award 2013, Australian Football Media Associations Best Print News Reporter 2023 and the Walkley Award for Young Journalist of the year 2014.
Landsberger is remembered fondly as tenacious, passionate, friendly, energetic, compassionate and as an incredibly talented reporter that will be missed dearly.
