In recent events, Ashleigh (Ash) Barty, has had to withdraw from the Eastbourne International, to be able to allow the long issue of her arm to settle down before she takes the court in Wimbledon in the following week.
Ash was due to play her second-round match on Tuesday against Ons Jabeur after being given a first-round bye. The rising star pulled out of Eastbourne after experiencing pain from bone stress in her serving arm. It is an issue she has been dealing with since her teenage years and it flares up whenever there is an increase in her workload.
Ash played five singles matches in Birmingham in the previous week and three more in the doubles event, but she is fairly confident that she will be top condition next week, hopefully prior heading to the All England Club. She will instead look to cheer on Australia’s cricket team in their Cricket World Cup clash with England at Lord’s, granted that she is hoping that her ties with the Australian coach Justin Langer will help score her a ticket for the sold-out clash between cricket’s oldest rivals.
“If it works out, we’ll try and get to the cricket, If not, we’ll be watching on telly,” Barty said at Devonshire Park on Monday, “I’ve been in touch with most of [the players]. I heard from JL [Justin Langer] yesterday and we’ve been in touch over the last few months.”
“Hopefully I can get there.”
