Free city guided tours
Knowledgeable volunteer tour guides offer 90 minute orientation, history and art tours from the Perth City Visitor Kiosk.General orientation tours run Monday-Saturday at 11am. Art city tour, Tuesdays at 2pm, Convicts and colonials tour, Wednesdays at 2pm.
Kings park
Kings Park has a stunning location overlooking the Swan river and offers sweeping views of the Perth skyline.The park covers more than 400 hectares and is the largest inner city park in the southern hemisphere. Walk amongst the treetops on the elevated bridge, wander the pathways in the botanical gardens and picnic amongst the gumtrees in the open grassy areas. Kings Park also has several large playgrounds for kids to enjoy.
Heirisson Island
Heirisson Island is located on the Swan River, a short walk from the CBD and is the best place to view Australia’s most iconic animal-the kangaroo in its natural habitat. You can enjoy a picnic by the waters edge at the many picnic tables, or simply enjoy a peaceful walk around the island.
The Bell Tower
One of the worlds largest musical instruments, The Bell Tower houses the Swan Bells in a distinctive 82.5 metre tower. Hear the bells and see the ringers in action-performing their ancient craft, then head up to the observation deck at the top of the tower to see 360 degree views of the Swan River and the CBD.
Perth Cultural Centre
The Perth Cultural Centre is home to a number of cultural institutions including the West Australian Museum, Art gallery, State library and theatre, all of which are free. A vibrant mix of food, music, entertainment and festivals complement the cultural mix, making it a perfect place to escape the bustle of the city.
Cottesloe Beach
“Cott” as it is affectionately known to locals is Perth’s most popular destination for picnicking, swimming and snorkeling.Shady Norfolk pines, clear water and pristine sands make this a perfect setting for a lazy afternoon or family day out. Buses depart the CBD hourly, seven days a week.
