Bachar El Haouli’s latest book is a children’s picture book titled “My Baba is the Best”, which was released in August 2022. This book marks a departure from his previous memoir, “Faith, Football and Family”, and showcases his versatility as an author.
My Baba is the Best is a heartwarming story that celebrates the special bond between fathers and daughters. Written from the perspective of a young girl, the narrative highlights the joy and love shared through everyday activities with her father.
The book encourages parents to spend quality time with their children, emphasizing the importance of outdoor activities and meaningful interactions over screen time. It’s particularly suitable for children between the ages of 4 to 8 years old.
My Baba is the best is a 32 page hardcover picture book that portrays a young girl’s deep admiration for her father. Through her eyes, readers experience various activities they enjoy together such as gardening, jogging, fishing, watching movies and going camping. The narrative also delves into cultural and spiritual practices, including making duaa (prayers), attending the masjid (mosque) on Fridays, and celebrating Eid (which refers to two specific Islamic holidays: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha), offering a glimpse into Muslim family life in Australia.
The book is praised for its inclusive representation, featuring a father with a big beard and a mother in hijab (a head covering worn in public by some Muslim women), challenging stereotypes and showcasing a loving, active, and engaged Muslim family.
Bachar El Haouli OAM was recognised by the Order of Australia for his an impressive 232 football games over 15 – year career in Australian Football League however, that was just a portion of his work and impact which led him to be awarded OAM.
