Located in the Mall of Muscat, the aquarium was built by the Al Jarwani group and Australia’s Advanced Aquarium Technologies. The new aquarium is focused on marine conservation and education with many displays of creatures native to Oman and surrounds. In all the aquarium will be home to 30,000 species of marine animals including sharks, stingrays, turtles, octopus, crocodiles and penguins.

The overall theme of the facility is based on Omani sailor Ahmad bin Majid’s Voyage of Discovery. Ahmad bin Majid was a famous 15th century Arabian navigator and cartographer who wrote several books on marine science and sailing.
