You will find some of Australia’s most beautiful parks and gardens in Melbourne. One of the most popular is the Royal Botanic Gardens. Here you will find a large variety of trees, plants and flower beds set on over 38 hectares of land. Just south of the city, Melbourne’s biggest park is Royal Park which covers over 180 hectares just north of the city centre. National Gallery of Victoria

The National Galleries of Victoria can be found on two seperate sites, with the first being NGV International. This is where you will find the gallerys international artworks. This collection includes famous pieces by celebrated old European masters as well as some of the world’s most exciting contemporary artists. Guided tours are free and run hourly.

Ian Potter Centre

The second site of the National Galleries of Victoria is devoted exclusively to Australian art. On exhibit here are paintings, prints, sculptures, textiles and more representing the nations art from the colonial period right up to the present day. Guided tours are free and run hourly.

Queen Victoria Market

Soak up the atmosphere at the Queen Victoria Market. Since 1878, the Queen Vic has been the city’s most popular marketplace and tourist attraction.The market has an atmosphere of old world charm that you will struggle to find in other areas of the city. Free food samples are on offer and if you are in the mood to spend you will find the market is full to the brim with souvenirs, handmade goods, antiques and fresh local produce.

Parliament House

Parliament House has been the seat of the Parliament of Victoria since 1855. Free guided tours run hourly where you can take in the ornate architecture and luxe leather and wood interior. When Parliament is sitting visitors are welcome to quietly observe the proceedings.

St Kilda Foreshore

The calm and serene water is ideal for swimming during the warmer months. Great for people watching, the foreshore is a hive of activity as walkers, joggers, cyclists and rollerbladers go by. Fairy Penguins are easily spotted after sunset every night of the year as they return from the days fishing.
